The
Community Coalition of Osceola Water Safety (CCOWS) was
formed in 2006 by a group of concerned employees at the Osceola
County Health Department following the drowning death of a fellow
employee’s daughter. The goal was to raise awareness about water
safety in Osceola County. The group now includes the City of
Kissimmee, City of St. Cloud, Gaylord Palms Resort, Kissimmee Fire
Department, Osceola County Emergency Services, Osceola County Health
Department, Osceola Regional Medical Center, Safe Kids- Osceola
County, and St. Cloud Fire Rescue.
The Community Coalition of Osceola Water Safety’s main goals are to
educate the residents and visitors of Osceola County and be the
primary resource for information on being safe in and around the
water. Drownings and near drownings are preventable injuries that
happen to people of all ages especially children. If you call us at
407-933-7946 you will have access to information about local pools,
layers of protection, swim instruction, and local events you will
see the CCOWS at all throughout Osceola County.
A service that is provided by the CCOWS is educating the children as
well as the adults, the ability to provide free swim lessons to
qualified families (more information can be found on the A.P.
Memorial Fund tab), and informing the residents and visitors of
Osceola County on the importance of knowing Cardiopulmonary
Resuscitation (CPR). The CCOWS want to let the residents and
visitors of Osceola County know that we are aware that drownings and
near drownings are a problem but if we all work together then we can
prevent this type of accident from happening to another family.
Learn to SWIM. Learn CPR. Teach the CHILDREN.
